Two weird looking pieces from the past week. I carved the Kuksa-thing last Saturday, and the spoon this afternoon. Obviously I made some mistakes with the spoon, but I learned a lot of stuff, too. This was my first attempt at kolrossing – of dubious success, my first attempt at using the back of a sloyd blade as a scraper, and a mistake in roughing out (seen as the gouge on the front of the bowl) made the bowl thinner than I’ve ever carved it, so it was cool to see how thin I could take it without ruining it. It was also the first spoon I’ve done start (from an almost cast-off piece of kindling) to finish (oiling, at least the first coat) in one day. Cooking spoons is fun.
